Despite the difficulties Brazil is facing with the Covid-19 pandemic, the automobile industry has managed to maintain a good pace of activity. In relation to trucks, the category recorded the highest production and domestic market index in 2021 compared to the accumulated figures for the first four months of this year and last year among all segments.
The data are from the National Association of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers (Anfavea). From January to April 2021, the truck segment had around 36 thousand units sold in the domestic market, a growth of 48,9% compared to the same period in 2020. In comparison to this year, April had a drop of 9,1 .9,8% compared to March, with 10,8 thousand units sold against XNUMX thousand in the previous month.

In relation to truck production, there was growth both in the comparison between April and March this year, and between the first four months of 2021 and 2020.
In April, 13,1 thousand trucks were produced compared to 12,5 thousand in March. In the first four months, in 2021 there were 46,2 thousand compared to 25,1 thousand trucks produced in 2020, an increase of almost 84%.
According to Gustavo Bonini, vice-president of trucks and buses at Anfavea, this is the best accumulated period from January to April since 2014.
There was no comparison with April 2020, as this was the month of general shutdown of factories and dealerships. At the end of March this year, factories also stopped due to the worsening of the pandemic and the difficulty in supplying parts for production.
“The numbers from this first third of the year indicate that our projections made in January are likely to be achieved, barring any unexpected situation in the second half of the year,” said Luiz Carlos Moraes, president of Anfavea. The association estimates growth of 15% in sales this year, 25% in production and 9% in vehicle exports in general.
